Quando aveva 7 anni già si divertiva con la 8mm del padre. Nel 1996 presenta i suoi cortometraggi al Cambridge Film Festival e dopo qualche anno ottiene il plauso della critica per “Following” e per “Memento”, di cui cura regia e sceneggiatura.
